There has been much discussion regarding one club on the Island, there would be advantages and disadvantages.
What would be the problems, what would be the advantages, let's have your views
There is a poll on mrc.com http://www.manxroadclub.com/
Remember, this is for feedback purposes only.

I think one club would be a good idea, just look at the kids at thec nsc and the young riders from the mrc there are some of the best coaches in the uk over here and i think cycling here can go forward as one club

It would be boring for Racing on the Island to Have One club on the Island. Having several Clubs creates interest in Races and Time Trial's where there are hopefully friendly rivalries (maybe not so friendly some times). Also the Heritage of the different Clubs would disappear, how sad would that be?

No Chance! The seperate clubs have taken enough time to establish their own identity. I am amazed that there isn't enough emphasis on the performance of each club. Would it be possible to have team events for juniors, seniors and veterans in the 10's, Bikestyles and the other 25's etc? A league table of some description would create some healthy competition. As it happens, I get all my cycling excitement and tips from the 'Olive Oil' thread in the Time Trial section of the forum.

The subject of a one all Island athletic club was being discussed at club and association level 30 years ago. Other than the combining of Manx A. C and Boundary Harriers to form Manx Harriers nothing has ever come of it. Today local athletes continue to represent the Harriers or Northern and Western A.C.s. If it ain't broke-----.

The trouble is it is broken! How many clubs have regular meets, how many people attend the agm's (CA or clubs), how many people organise races or events. The answer is hardly anyone and the people who do are the same people who do everything and this cannot continue. Also think or financial gains i.e. single fees paid to BC, CTT etc. As far as team events and racing goes that is a non argument as all local races are every person for themselves. I believe the intention is to not forget the past but rationalize the organizational structure move forward. There still we be sections under any new structure and the proud history of Manx cycling will quite correctly not be forgotten. We have 21st century top athletes but a very dated attitude to everything else, it has to be time to chance for the future of the sport. Rant over!!

Interesting vote pete, it would be good for one club re the admin side of things ie less affiliations to CA BCF and RTTC, however I don't think the political, click and hidden agendas will be sorted.... my pint is still half empty!

It would be a shame to loose the identity of the clubs considering the history that surrounds all of the clubs. Perhaps all of the events could be organised by a central committee that manages the treasury, secretarial, and chairing of the Islands cycling world. Each club becomes a sub committee with individual responsibilities, ie MRC organises the Time Trials, VW organises the first six road races, ensuring that the racing happens on the day. As the secretary of the MMBC I am aware of the amount of paperwork the is needed to orgainse a race and this is multiplied by each secretary of each club, plus the CA for a multitude of races. If all races are agreed in advance, ie in November of the year prior, one application to the govorning body can be made with one person co-ordinating it all. The fees are sent to one Treasurer who co-ordinates the financing of the island cycling world. That way the IOM cycling is pulled under one banner, however the clubs can still maintain their individual identity and contribute to the islands cycling success without being tied up with Admin.
At the end of the day lets make it happen for the Isle of Man
I agree that enough is not made about the clubs. Competition breeds a higher level of competition. Why do we not have an Isle of man ranking system with points allowed for each race entered.
